Course Information
This intense four-day course of lectures,
laboratories, and breakout sessions instructs shoulder
surgeons about shoulder arthroscopic diagnostic techniques, surgical
indications, and treatment.
The shoulder arthroplasty and fractures session teaches current
techniques to treat shoulder arthritis and
trauma.
Wednesday evening consists of shoulder arthroplasty and fracture
fixation workshops. Friday offers several
labs. These sessions run concurrently with the Friday Breakout Session.
Two Traditional Cadaver Arthroscopy Laboratories will be held at UCSD
Medical School and the DJO,
Inc. CERF lab on Friday morning and afternoon. These cadaver surgery
labs teach diagnostic and operative
techniques of shoulder arthroscopy. Two registrants per arthroscopic
station will be assigned in these
laboratories. An instructor is available for every 4 registrants. This
Cadaver Surgery Arthroscopy Lab is
limited to 92 registrants for each of the two sessions.
The Wednesday and Friday Shoulder Model Laboratory is based on
identified needs of arthroscopic
shoulder surgeons for a specific technique workshop. Instructors will
teach the steps of their preferred technique
using shoulder models. There will be two registrants for each shoulder
model. Arthroscopic cameras,
anchors, and repair instruments of only one manufacturer will be
available in each lab.
There are six lab choices:
1) Arthrex Shoulder Repair Set using Bio-Corkscrew FT anchors with
FiberWire, Scorpion Suture Passer,
NeedlePunch II Suture Passer, Viper Suture Passer, Penetrator and
BirdBeak Suture Passer, Bio-SutureTak
with FiberWire, SutureLasso, FiberStick, SutureDock, Bio-PushLock
knotless anchor, and 6th Finger Knot
Pusher.
2) ArthroCare Sports Medicine featuring tools for repair of the rotator
cuff and labrum including the CapsLock
cannula, SmartiStitch Suture Passing System with the PerfectPasser, and
LabraLock P PEEK knotless
implant making it fast and easy to complete the best repair.
3) ConMed Linvatec arthroscopic shoulder repair techniques include the
enhanced Revo™ suture anchors
wilth HiFi™ high strength suture, and the Spectrum II™ System. To
enhance suture passing and
management, we offer the Shuttle Relay™, Suture Passer, Suture Saver™
kits and the Master Arthroscopy
Shoulder Instrument Set.
4) DePuy Mitek Master the essential steps in performing an arthroscopic
Bankart repair, labral repair,
capsular application, and rotator cuff repair including new bridging
techniques. The registrant will work
with Mitek's comprehensive line of invaluable suture management
instruments.
5) Smith & Nephew Arthroscopic Shoulder Repair Systems with KINSA™,
BIORAPTOR™OC and TWINFIX
™ Suture Anchors and the ELITE™ PASS and ACCUPASS™ Suture Shuttling
Systems.
6) Stryker Endoscopy Technique using Stryker Wedge Anchors loaded with
ForceFiber™.
Both the Stryker Suture Slider System and Stryker’s Champion™ Shoulder
Instrumentation will be used for
shuttling and retrieval of suture.
Dr. Esch suggests you take the Shoulder Model Lab prior to the Cadaver
Arthroscopy Lab if possible.
You may take two model labs as there is different equipment available,
and you may take two Cadaver Labs
with a separate specimen in each lab.
On Saturday, the same cadaver arthroscopy specimens will be provided for
dissection, open
reconstructive techniques, and/or arthroplasty in groups of three-six
persons. This lab is held at UCSD
Medical School.
