San Diego Shoulder Institute (SDSI) is a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit medical education organization, whose mission is to improve the quality of shoulder care by offering exceptional educational experiences to orthopaedic physicians. SDSI’s main focus is on an annual four-day course that brings together the best orthopaedic surgeons to present the most recent technological advances in shoulder care. The course combines lecture, skills laboratories (in both shoulder model and cadaver options), workshops, case presentations, and exhibit areas as arenas for learning. SDSI collaborates with the University of California San Diego Center for the Future of Surgery to conduct the cadaver laboratory experience. Each year, approximately 400 surgeons from International locales attend the course.
SDSI is an educational provider and does not offer physician fellowship opportunities. We encourage you to attend our course to further your education.
Posture Shirts Now Available from San Diego Shoulder
The Evidence Based Apparel Posture Shirts create a whole new technology that we call "Anatomic Garments" – making the other compression garments on the market obsolete. We know of no other clothing with clinical evidence showing that an anatomical change is triggered when you put on the garment. It has taken years of research, trial and discovery to come up with a base material that has a specific four way stretch material, containing a combination of Nylon, Polyester, and Lycra. Sewn into this 4-way stretch material are strategically placed strips of non-stretch material called Neuro-bands.
The Posture Shirt combines the science of proprioception (the unconscious perception of movement and spatial orientation arising from stimuli within the body itself) and targeted skeletal support technology. The body is "cued" by neuro-receptors in the skin firing messages to the brain to pull the shoulders back while the integrated support system provides a subtle pulling and support action. The result can be scientifically measured. Looking inside the body and shoulder using leading edge bi-plane fluoroscopy technology, it's been demonstrated that the Posture Shirt has an anatomical effect by positively moving the humeral head (end of the upper arm bone) within the shoulder joint. This puts the joint in a more efficient and effective position. In a double-blind clinical study, participants shoulder strength was immediately increased an average 6% just by wearing the shirt."
