CME Mission Statement

CME Purpose:  The continuing medical education (CME) mission of San Diego Shoulder Institute (SDSI) is to:

  • Improve knowledge, competence, and performance in the treatment and care of shoulder disorders by offering a quality educational forum to global participants.

  • To promote safe, accurate, and effective methods for the diagnosis and treatment of the shoulder and related joints.

Content Areas

  •  SDSI courses offer best practice modalities for the diagnosis and treatment of shoulder disorders.  

Target Audience: 

  • SDSI’s primary target audience is United States and International orthopaedic surgeons. 

  • SDSI’s secondary target audience is:

    • Other physicians and surgeons with an interest in shoulder care

    • Orthopaedic residents

    • Orthopaedic Fellows with an interest in the shoulder

    • Allied health clinicians with an interest in shoulder care (with a focus on physical therapists)

Types of Activities:

  • SDSI brings together recognized experts in the field of shoulder care to offer education on best practices, current research, and technological advances. The annual course combines various educational strategies and is comprised of:

    • Didactic Lectures.

    • Interactive case studies

    • Panel Discussions

    •  Elective hands-on arthroscopic motor skills laboratories using plastic shoulder models

    • Elective hands-on arthroscopic motor skills laboratories using cadaver specimens

    • Elective anatomical dissection of the shoulder

    • Elective open surgical treatment of the shoulder including instability, rotator cuff repair, and arthroplasty.
       

  • Development and distribution of an annual DVD comprised of course lectures, case studies, and panel discussions.

Expected Results of the Program

  • SDSI implements evaluation tools to assess the effectiveness of CME activities.  SDSI expects data in support of:

    • Validation of improved knowledge, competence, and performance related to care of the shoulder.

    • Validation of course effectiveness in achievement of course objectives

    • Validation of development of CME activities in support of learner’s identified needs

    • Validation of course effectiveness as a quality program

SDSI continues to ensure maximization of overall program effectiveness via implementation of an annual assessment and program improvement plan.

San Diego Shoulder Institute is
accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME).

San Diego Shoulder Institute is an approved International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery, and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS) Teaching Center.  Please notify our registration staff if you are interested in completing an ISAKOS evaluation form or obtaining ISAKOS certification for this course.
